It is a place to collaborate, comfortably stretch the boundaries of your imagination and create magnificent works! Our workshops explore many art forms, ranging from metalsmithing, glass fusing, metal book arts, etching, and many other art forms.
Nicole Ohayon has been an artist since she was 9yrs old, when she started drawing & painting and learning the rudiments of art from friends & family. As a child she was often sewing & making her own clothes, and crafting jewelry and sculpture out of found objects & clay. She began selling jewelry of her own design to her classmates in high school, often taking on commissions and special orders.
As a young woman she took classes in fashion design & participated for many years in events during L.A.’s fashion week where the models would take to the runways wearing her jewelry.
Nicole’s work has been featured in retail outlets & museum gift shops, from the city of La Jolla’s MOCA, to boutiques in Venice Beach. She has sold her work locally and internationally. Her ‘Art To Wear’ has been used in fashion magazine photo-shoots, and can be found adorning the arms and necks of celebrities and film stars.
Nicole has been a part of L.A.’s ‘The Brewery’ arts community since 2003 and helped herself to the hands-on learning only available in a community known as ‘the world’s largest arts colony’
Nicole’s lifetime journey in art also includes;
-Metalsmithing classes w/ Joseph Fiorillo at the Barnsdall Art Center
-7yrs mentor association w/ Hector Fernandez of L.A.’s ‘Made In Moon Studio’
-Studying glasswork at ‘Eagle Rock Stained Glass’
-giving private instruction to other artists in metalsmithing and glasswork
-creating and selling oil paintings, glassware, and metal etchings
artist’s statement
at the core of work & life
is experimentation
…experimentation w/ matter & spirit, w/ material & self
…where the alchemist would take matter;
the alchemist must also go,
from prima materia to philosopher’s stone,
from lead to gold,
from here to wisdom
…fire, water, air, acid;
all the elements transform
…then; imprint the self;
w/ markers, nail polish,
w/ resistance
…allow to dissolve,
allow chance, allow risk
…then; at the right time,
the right temperature.
that perfect point of transformation…
…all processes are unique.
…each a personal & archetypal experience.
…each piece is unique,
capturing the growth of self experimentation.
